singles (solo recordings and duets) on Billboard's country chart.
Most famous duet partner was (and remains) Tammy Wynette, his second wife.
Together, they released a string of duet hits which included the No. 1 hits "We're Gonna
Hold On" (1973), "Golden Ring" (1976) and "Near You" (1977)
While experimenting as a rockabilly singer during the fifties, Jones went by the name
"Thumper Jones."
He was awarded the 2002 U.S. National Medal of Arts from the
National Endowment of the Arts.
